2017 Kia Niro sets Guinness World Record® for Efficiency

Kia Niro

Anticipation continues to mount for the all-new 2017 Kia Niro, the long-awaited Urban Crossover Hybrid Vehicle that deftly melds the functionality of a crossover with the efficiency of a hybrid electric vehicle. Those with range anxiety or fear of being squeezed at the pump will be pleased to know that the new Niro can already lay claim to owning a world record for fuel economy.

The 2017 Kia Nero received the Guinness World Record® for lowest fuel consumption, demonstrated by its coast-to-coast jaunt from Los Angeles City Hall to New York City Hall. Over the 3,715.4 miles, drivers Wayne Gerdes and Robert Winger required a mere 48.5 gallons of gas to reach their destination, or just a hair over four tanks. The Niro EX, unchanged in any way from the version that will be available to purchase from Bob Sight Kia, recorded an unbelievable estimated fuel economy rating of 76.6 mpg.

“We’re extremely pleased with the Niro’s record-breaking performance,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning KMA. “We set out to build a vehicle that offers real-world utility, great looks, and fantastic mileage, and setting the Guinness World Record® title confirms our achievement.”

The 2017 Kia Niro will be available in five different trims: FE, LX, EX, Touring, and the limited Launch Edition. The FE was tested by the EPA to return 52 mpg highway/49 mpg city/50 mpg combined, the LX was tested at 51 mpg city/46 mpg highway/49 mpg overall, and the Touring was tested at 46 mpg city/40 mpg highway/43 mpg overall.
