Kia Models Earn J.D. Power Awards

Kia Soul JD Power

Every year, J.D. Power releases its Initial Quality Study (IQS). With this year’s results, Kia came away with five segment awards—the most of any brand in the study. The Soul, Forte, Cadenza, Niro, and Sorento all drove away with the top award in their respective segments. Additionally, both the Optima and Sportage finished second in their classes.

Kia’s crossover lineup performed exceptionally well in this study. The Soul is the “Highest Ranked Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle in Initial Quality, 3 Years in a Row,”1 while the Sorento was named “Highest Ranked Midsize SUV in Initial Quality, 2 out of 3 Years in a Row”2. Even the all-new Niro hybrid was recognized as the “Highest Ranked Small SUV in Initial Quality”3.

As for Kia’s sedans, the Forte and Cadenza both were placed at the top of their segments. The Forte was named the “Highest Ranked Compact Car in Initial Quality”4 and the full-size Cadenza was the “Highest Ranked Large Car in Initial Quality”5.

In addition to these individual awards, the overall Kia brand performed very well in the study. Kia finished with a score of 72 problems per 100 vehicles, which is thelowest number of problems for the brand within the last 20 years.

Record-Setting Fuel Economy

Hybrids make great family rides because they help drivers save big money on long road trips, and the Kia Niro is the best of the best. In fact, it set a Guinness World Record for least fuel consumption when driven across the US thanks to its 50 mpg combined rating* and 600-mile range.

Crossover Versatility & Space

Entertaining Connectivity

Wanna keep the kids entertained on the open road? Or, maybe you’d like to avoid backed up traffic while driving to your vacation destination? Kia’s UVO system allows you to stream music, access your favorite apps, and even tap into an integrated navigation system with ease.

Innovative Safety

The Kia Niro offers tons of driver alert and other safety systems to help you avoid collisions before they happen, like a Forward Collision Warning System and Blind-Spot Detection.

2017 Kia Soul Turbo

2017 Kia Soul Turbo

The Kia Soul has made a name for itself as a major player in a segment where many have failed. The latest model continues to innovate and surprise enthusiasts, just as it has done year after year. This year, however, the new Kia Soul adds a powertrain designed to offer a more thrilling ride.

The 2017 Kia Soul Turbo brings a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. That’s a major increase of 40 hp and 45 lb-ft of torque compared to the previous model year.

While an increase in performance usually requires a tradeoff with decreased fuel economy, that isn’t the case in the 2017 Kia Soul Turbo. The new model boasts an EPA-estimated 26/31 mpg city/highway*.

Switching to the available sport mode adds quick, smooth shifting and stiffened steering. A flat-bottomed steering wheel offers easy maneuverability. Meanwhile, the open ergonomic cockpit offers a streamlined design that’s perfect for drivers on the move.

Drivers can opt for the available technology package to upgrade to a navigation system, low-beam projector lights, and a premium audio system. Additionally, if the airbags are deployed while a smartphone is connected via Bluetooth, the car will automatically place a call to emergency responders.

We here at Bob Sight Kia are happy to see the 2017 Soul Turbo making driving more fun!

First of all, the Kia Sorento will be receiving serious technology upgrades in both the fields of entertainment and safety. While the model will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technology, allowing you to sync your cell phone to your car, it will also get autonomous emergency braking as a standard feature.

Plus, the Kia Sorento has of course increased slightly in price, which is what happens to almost all vehicles that get tons of upgrades between model years. But you’d be surprised at just how little the 2017 Kia Sorento’s price has jumped. It is only $300 more than its predecessor, making it one of the most affordable SUVs.

2017 Kia Sportage’s Safety Earns Top Safety Pick Plus

2017 Kia Sportage

2017 Kia Sportage

If you’re shopping for a new car, you want something that will keep you and your passengers safe. And, one of the easiest ways to make sure a car is working hard to protect its passengers is to check crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Recently, the 2017 Kia Sportage’s safety was put to the test and it earned a Top Safety Pick Plus designation from the IIHS.

“The Top Safety Pick Plus designation is a significant achievement,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, KMA, in a statement.  “We are especially proud to have our all-new Sportage earn that TSP+ rating in light of IIHS’ new, more challenging standards, validating the efforts of our engineers and the priority we place on safety.”

In order to receive this rating, the 2017 Sportage had to earn the top “good” rating in all five crash tests, including the difficult small overlap front. It also earned a “superior” rating for its front crash prevention system. Some of these advanced safety features include Autonomous Emergency Braking, a Lane Departure Warning System, Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Take the 2017 Kia Sportage out for a test drive today at Bob Sight Kia and you’ll feel confident driving wherever you need to with the Sportage’s tried and true safety standards.

Kia Partnership with Hire Heroes USA to Help Veterans Find Jobs

veteranKia is teaming up with the organization Hire Heroes USA, a nonprofit that helps coach veterans on finding civilian jobs. Kia will donate $25,000 initially as well as supporting them in future initiatives and programs. One goal of the Kia partnership with Hire Heroes USA is to raise awareness for the organization so more veterans can use its services.

Hire Heroes USA has also been named the official partner of the LPGA Kia Classic as an extension of its partnership with Kia, and a portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the charity.

Hire Heroes USA helps veterans by helping them understand skills they have that can be used in the workplace and teaching them how to search for jobs and create resumes. Most coursework is completed online or over the phone, with seven spots around the country where Veteran Transition Specialists are based.

The organization says their research shows an average impact of over $12,000 for every veteran who uses the program.

New Kia Driverless Car Performs Test Run in Nevada

2016 KIA Soul EV

2016 KIA Soul EV

Kia recently began testing driverless car technology, making it one of the first brands to invest in this exciting new take on mobility. Testing began in Nevada in a brightly-marked Kia Soul EV just after the state gave the automaker the green light for testing. This could be a sign that we may see driverless cars on the road in the near future.

According to the NY Daily News, the Kia driverless car was a $2 billion investment, with a focus on autonomous vehicle technology and researching. The brand is hoping to develop its Advanced Driver Assistance System by 2018. Though Kia had some difficulty getting state approval beforehand, largely due to safety concerns, Nevada gave the go-ahead late last year.

“Nevada’s less stringent regulations and willingness to accommodate businesses has helped it become an attractive place to test those technologies,” said Fortune Magazine’s Kirsten Korosec. “In 2011, Nevada became the first state to pass legislation to let companies operate autonomous vehicles on public roads, largely due to Google’s lobbying efforts there. It’s now one of just four states, plus Washington DC, that has laws regulating autonomous vehicle operations.”

Kia’s long-term goal is to have partially autonomous cars road-ready by 2020 and fully-autonomous cars by 2030. Although there is no word yet what the cars will look like or what the specs will be, the Kia Soul EV is doing just fine navigating courses and steering just like every other car on the road. Once the red tape clears, autonomous vehicles will be the future of mobility.
